EARLIER TODAY IN THE LOVELY TWIN TOWNS OF BALLINA AND KILLALOE!

We were here this morning … it’s only a 15 minute drive from Nenagh … and an absolute MUST VISIT!

That’s the River Shannon and the lovely twin towns span both the river and a county border. I’m taking the picture from Ballina … in County Tipperary … looking across the bridge to Killaloe on the other side … that’s in County Clare.

Ballina has a newly rejuvenated tree-lined park along the riverbank and first-class pubs and eateries along the Main Street and old quayside. Killaloe, on the Clare side, is made up of charming narrow streets flanked by old shops along a steep hill looking down over a 13th century cathedral.

Killaloe was the birthplace of Brian Boru (941-1014) who united Ireland against the Vikings and while he was High King of Ireland, between 1002 and 1014, this picture-perfect town, with its Victorian streets and old canal banks was the Capital of Ireland!
