Traditionally the Shannon Navigation has always used Red / Black as Port / Starboard channel markers (going upstream), Waterways Ireland have now completed the changeover to the IALA-A (International Association of Lighthouse Authorities) scheme which is Red / Green. So its Red Port Left going upstream but the opposite going with the flow.
