U13s v Thomond 09/12/12

On Sunday, December 9th our U13`s played Thomond in a top of the table clash of two unbeaten teams.

An early Thomond try was cancelled out by a Hugh Denning touchdown and the same player crossed again before Thomond replied just on the stroke of half time to leave us 14-12 in front at the break.

The second half was very tense and with about 5 minutes left Thomond scored again to lead 17-14, but with time almost up Hugh Denning once more got the ball in his own half and evaded all attempts to tackle him and scored his third try under the posts which we converted to leave the final score: Ballina-Killaloe 21 Thomond 17.

Man of the match for the second game running was Oisin Cooke, with hat trick try scorer Hugh Denning a close runner up. Special mention must go to Darren Bowe who converted all three tries which was the difference on the score board.

Well done to the whole squad on a magnificent effort.

Under 13s v Newport 25/11/2012

Ballina Killaloe RFC Under 13s travelled to Newport to play their fourth game of the league with their unbeaten run under threat. There was a heavy frost as the game kicked off on a very wet pitch.  However that didn’t stop the lads as they scored two early tries. With our pack playing well 6 more tries followed with all 8 tries being scored by backs.

The score ended up 42-7 with George Keely and Hugh Denning scoring hat-tricks while Darren Bowe and Joseph McEvoy scored one each.

With 2 players getting hat-tricks you would think one of them would get man of the match but that honour went to our no.8, Oisin Cooke, who had a wonderful game, putting in tackle after tackle and winning balls he had no right to win. Well done Oisin and well done to the whole team on a great performance.

Under 10s Blitz

The Under 10s hosted a blitz which included teams from Bruff, St Mary’s, Shannon and UL-Bohs. The host club fielded two teams, B-K Bulla and B-K Bears. The Bears defeated Bruff 4-3 in the opening match with Cian McCauley scoring one of the tries.

The second match was against Shannon where James Frahill scored a great individual try and there were also two fantastic tries by Ian Larkin. Ballina-Killaloe won this match 5-4. The third and last game against UL Bohs was a very exciting encounter, BKRFC went into an early lead with tries again from Ian Larkin, James Frahill and Cian Macaulay before UL Bohs staged a comeback to make the scores level at 3-3. In the last minute of play Callum Byrne picked the ball up on his own try line made a strong run to half way where he passed to Ian Larkin who finished the move off with great style right in the corner. This was to be the last play of the game so BKRFC came out winners 4-3. Read more »

Under 12s host home blitz

under12On Sunday 25th September the u 12`s had their first blitz of the new season. Hosted by Ballina / Killaloe the blitz took place on the new training field near Clarisford. Despite heavy rain the night before and during the day the pitch held up very well and great credit is due to Joe Gilmartin for the work he has done in preparing the pitches and car parking.

We were up against teams from Abbeyfeale, Newport and UL Bohemians. We played a strong Abbeyfeale team in the first match and despite being behind for long periods of the match we won 4 tries to 3. It was a very physical game and we were delighted to come away with a win. In our second match we played Newport. This turned out to be an easier match and despite Newport’s best efforts we were too strong and won 6 tries to 1. Our last match was a very exciting affair against a strong UL Bohs team. We managed to win this match by 2 tries to 1 with our tries coming from George Keely and Cian O’Donnell. Well done to all the players and especially Paul, Dylan and Rowan who taking part in their first blitz. Let’s hope this is a good omen for the rest of the season.
