Object in the Water at O’Briens Bridge
Killaloe Coast Guard were tasked by Killaloe Garda to inspect an object floating just South of Parteen weir Co Clare. A dClass rescue rib was launched at Mountpilier with a crew of four while a walking team proceeded on foot on the western bank. The object was found to be a wheelie bin which could have been a hazard to navigation in the area. The bin was removed to Mountpilier.

Killaloe Coast Guard Tasked
Killaloe Coast were tasked to contain a small fuel spill from a 32′ Cruiser which sank at Kincora Harbour spilling Diesel and engine oil into the harbour. Booms were placed at the mouth of the harbour to contain pollution. The Coast Guard at Killaloe would request all boat owners to check on their boats after the cold spell.

New Rescue Boat for Killaloe Coast Guard
A new Red Bay Stormforce 8 Rescue Rib fitted with twin Suzuki DF115′s, Garmin 4010 chartplotter, 2 x Garmin 200i VHF’s, Garmin radar on a folding A-frame arch, Self-righting bag, Golight spotlight with remote joystick, and 4 x Scot suspension jockey seats arrived in Killaloe this week. Extensive trials will be carried out over the Christmas period and will be on show at the local Christmas Day
Search on Frozen Lake near O’Briens Bridge
Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked by MRSC Valentia to a report from Killaloe Garda that someone may have fallen through the Ice at a Lake situated at the junction of the R466 and R463 near O,Briens Bridge in Co Clare.

Cruiser gets into Difficulty on Lough Derg
Killaloe Coast Guard Unit was tasked when A 24′ Cruiser which was launched at Ballina Slip and then lost power the Cruiser drifted a short distance when the experianced skipper dropped anchor and called for assistance as darkness had set in.
The Killaloe Coast Guard Unit towed the craft and its three passangers to safety at Ballina Slip.

Missing Person in Co. Clare
Killaloe Coast Guard Unit was tasked to assist Gardai in a search for a missing person in the OBrien’s Bridge area. Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 115 and a large number of locals assisted in the night search which was stood down at 23:00 due to poor visibility. The search resumed at 07:00 the next day with three rescue boats from Killaloe Coast Guard conducting a search of the Headrace, and
Shannon Swim
Killaloe Coast Guard Unit with koyakers from UL Activity Centre assisted nine local swimmers who swam from Twomile Gate to Ballina Moorings just below Killaloe Bridge. The first swimmers completed the swim in just under one hour. Well done to all that took part.

World Underwater Clean Up Day
As part of Project AWARE Foundation’s world clean up day, Killaloe coast Guard Unit Launched a D Class as a safety boat for the Portroe Dive Centre. A large number of divers turned up to clean the bottom of this beautiful diving pool set in the slate quarry above Portroe. The unit carried out some excercises and afterwards there was a BBQ for all the participants courtesy of OLDFARM.

Wildlife in Danger from Fishing Line.
Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked to assist a Swan that got caught in fishing line. When the Unit arrived the swan had freed itself and left the area. The Coast Guard would ask that fishermen do not leave line or hooks in or near waterways as animals and birds can be injured.

Strong Flow South of Killaloe
Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked to assist a 66′ barge that was towing a 30′ pontoon when it failed to make headway against a very strong flow of water just south of Killaloe Bridge. The Barge with its two occupants was assisted to the calmer waters of the canal.
